Born in Havana, Cuba, Taras Domitro trained at Alejo Carpentier School and National Ballet School of Cuba. He performed as a principal dancer with National Ballet of Cuba prior to joining San Francisco Ballet as a principal dancer in 2008.

Domitro’s major roles include Albrecht in Tomasson’s Giselle, King of the Snow and Nutcracker Prince in Tomasson’s Nutcracker; Mercutio in Tomasson’s Romeo & Juliet; Prince Siegfried in Tomasson’s Swan Lake; Basilio in Tomasson/Possokhov’s Don Quixote; Franz in Balanchine’s Coppélia; Lensky in Cranko’s Onegin; Benjamin in Wheeldon’s Cinderella; Solor in Makarova’s (after Petipa) “The Kingdom of the Shades” from La Bayadère, Act II; and Brown in Robbins’ Dances at a Gathering. He created the roles of Giovanni and The Swimmer, respectively, in Possokhov’s Francesca da Rimini and Swimmer.

His repertory also includes Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments, “Emeralds,” “Rubies,” Scotch Symphony, Symphony in C, and Theme and Variations; the title role in Fokine’s Petrouchka; Lifar’s Suite en Blanc; McGregor’s Chroma; Nureyev’s Raymonda—Act III; Ratmansky’s Russian Seasons and Shostakovich Trilogy (Symphony #9); Robbins’ Opus 19/The Dreamer; Tomasson’s 7 for Eight, Caprice, Criss-Cross, Prism, On a Theme of Paganini, Le Quattro Stagioni, and Trio; the pas de deux from Vaganova’s Diana and Acteon the pas de deux from Vainonen’s Flames of Paris; and Zanella’s Alles Walzer and Underskin.

As a guest artist, Domitro performed the pas de deux from Flames of Paris at Gala of the Stars at the World Ballet Competition in Orlando, Florida, in 2009; the pas de deux from Don Quixote at the Gran Festival del Querétaro, Querétaro, Mexico, in 2008; the Blue Bird pas de deux from The Sleeping Beauty with Balletto dell’Opera di Roma in 2007; and selections from Paquita and Coppélia for the Alicia Alonso Foundation Gala in Madrid in 2006.

Domitro received a 2008 Gold Medal at the World International Ballet Competition in Orlando, Florida, the grand prix at Peru’s International Ballet Festival in 2003, and in 2000, 1st prize and the Revelation Award at the Concurso de Festival Internacional de Academias in Havana, Cuba.
